Film unit nabs distrib rights to dance comedy

Entertainment One has acquired all North American distribution rights to Big Talk’s romantic dance comedy “Cuban Fury” and plans a theatrical release next year.

Producers are Nira Park and James Biddle.

The film has been co-developed and co-financed by Studiocanal and Film4. The British FiIm Institute also co-financed the movie, which Studiocanal is releasing in its own territories.

“Fury” is directed by James Griffiths and stars Nick Frost, Rashida Jones, Chris O’Dowd, Ian McShane and Olivia Colman.

Jon Brown scripted “Fury,” in which a former salsa prodigy attempts a comeback years after his career was ruined by a rival dancer.

Big Talk’s credits include “Shaun of the Dead,” “Hot Fuzz,” “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” and “Sightseers,” which world premiered at Cannes in May.

“Fury” was part of Studiocanal’s sales slate at the American Film Market this month.

The deal was negotiated by Sudiocanal’s Harold Van Lier and Jo Sweby for eOne.

Entertainment One expanded its North American theatrical distribution operations in August 2011. Upcoming releases include “The Sweeney,” “Twice Born,” starring Penelope Cruz and Emile Hirsch, and Brian DePalma’s “Passion,” starring Rachel McAdams.
