‘Ends of the Earth’ lands deals

CBS Films, Sony division buy distrib rights

Derek Lee and Clif Prowse’s buzzed-about found-footage film “Ends of the Earth” is set to travel to the ends of the world.

CBS Films has acquired U.S. distribution rights and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions has acquired distribution rights in multiple territories for the action thriller.

SPWA deal includes German-speaking Europe, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Latin America and South Africa.

Automatik Entertainment — a joint venture between IM Global and Alliance Films — holds worldwide rights to the pic. Alliance will handle duties in Canada, Spain and the U.K. IM Global is handling international sales.

“Earth” tells the story of two best friends on a whirlwind trip around the world. Their journey turns surreal when they encounter a phenomenon that will change one of them forever.

The film is not yet finished. As they did with “The Woman in Black,” CBS Films execs bought U.S. rights after seeing footage.

Lee and Prowse co-wrote the pic. Chris Ferguson and Zach Lipovsky produced with backing from Telefilm Canada, with IM Global’s Stuart Ford, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Charles Layton exec producing.

CBS Films co-president Wolfgang Hammer and exec VP of acquisitions & co-productions Scott Shooman made the announcement jointly.

The deal was brokered on behalf of SPWA by Michael Helfand and Joe Matukewicz, along with IM Global’s Jonathan Deckter. Jack Bleck and Shooman negotiated for CBS Films.
