‘End of Watch’ returns to theaters

Open Road to bring back police actioner on Dec. 7

Open Road will bring back police actioner “End of Watch” into U.S. theaters on Dec. 7.

“End of Watch” opened in first place with $13 million during the Sept. 21-23 frame and cumed $39 million domestically. Open Road plans to open the movie in more than 700 locations.

Movie stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena and is written and directed by David Ayer. Pic was produced by Ayer’s Crave Films, John Lesher under his Le Grisbi Prods. and Nigel Sinclair and Matt Jackson of Exclusive Media — which also financed the film in association with Emmett/Furla Films.

Open Road topper Tom Ortenberg said the re-release is aimed partly at pushing “Watch” for awards consideration.

FilmDistrict has the only wide release opening on Dec. 7, romantic comedy “Playing for Keeps.”

Exclusive Media holds worldwide distribution rights to “Watch.”
