Emma Rigby nurses role in ‘The Physician’

Phillipp Stolzl to helm pic co-starring Ben Kinglsley

Emma Rigby has landed the female lead in the indie “The Physician” starring Ben Kingsley.

Stellan Skarsgard, Tom Payne and Oliver Martinez are also on board to co-star with Philipp Stolzl helming.

Based on the Noah Gordon tome, the story revolves around a surgeon’s apprentice who disguises himself as a Jew to study at a school that does not admit Christians.

Rigby will play a woman who is married to a member of the Shah’s court but falls for the young healer when a plague rocks the city. Filming begins in Germany and Morocco this summer.

Jan Berger penned the adaptation and Wolf Bauer and Nico Hofmann will produce.

Rigby’s past credits include “Demons Never Die” and “Prisoners’ Wives.” She is repped by WME, Independent Talent Group and Alan Siegel Entertainment.
