Australian thesp Joel Edgerton (“Warrior”) will topline and produce the thriller “Felony,” to be directed by Matthew Saville from Edgerton’s own script with production starting in late October.
Deal for the Australian thesp was unveiled Wednesday during the opening day of Cannes.
Rosemary Blight of Goalpost Pictures Australia will produce with Edgerton. The Solution has arranged the financing for the film and co-founders Lisa Wilson and Myles Nestel will exec produce and the Solution will handle international sales with Wilson introducing “Felony” to buyers at Cannes Film Market.
Roadshow Films will distribute in Australia and New Zealand. CAA is handling US rights and introduced the product to the Solution.
Story centers on a decorated police officer driving home after a celebration drink with his team following the long waited bust of a major gang. He runs a young cyclist off the road. As he gives CPR to the child, fellow officers arrive to take his statement — and he tells them a lie about the accident that will change all their lives.
Edgerton will next be seen in Baz Luhrmann’s “The Great Gatsby” and “The Odd Life of Timothy Green.” He is shooting Kathryn Bigelow’s Navy SEALS pic.
