First release is 'The Croods' in March
DreamWorks Animation and 20th Century Fox have settled on release dates for a dozen titles. Dates are as far out as June 18, 2016, for the toon shop’s third “How to Train Your Dragon” installment.
The newest titles to receive dates include a trio set for 2015: “The Penguins of Madagascar” will bow March 27, followed by a working-titled pic “Trolls” on June 5 and “B.O.O.: Bureau of Otherworldly Operations (Nov. 6). In 2016, Fox will release “Dragon 3” and “Kung Fu Panda 3” on March 18.
DWA’s previously-dated titles start next year with caveman pic “The Croods” (March 22), then “Turbo,” about a racing snail, on July 19 and “Mr. Peabody and Sherman,” the Classic Media adaptation, on Nov. 1.
The studio’s 2014 toon trio includes “Me and My Shadow” (March 14), “How to Train Your Dragon 2” (June 20) and “Happy Smekday!” (Nov. 26).
Last month, Fox took over distribution duties from Paramount for all DWA toons. The animation studio will operate under an 8% distribution fee with Fox, the same as with Par. But DWA will pay a lower 6% fee for growing digital platforms like cable and online video-on-demand and electronic-sell-through.
DWA’s last film to go through Par is “Rise of the Guardians,” which launches Nov. 21.
