Xi Jinping calls for closer ties with U.S.
BEIJING — Disney prexy-CEO Robert Iger met with Xi Jinping, the Chinese Vice President and anointed future president, in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing Wednesday.
During the meeting, Xi called for greater trade ties between the U.S. and China, and said he hoped for the early and successful completion of Disneyland in Shanghai, which is under construction. He said cultural ties were a great way to promote relations between the two countries, and praised Dianey’s efforts to strengthen those ties.
“However, some problems still exist in Sino-U.S. economic ties,” Xi said.
Xi, who visited the U.S. in February, is expected to start to take over the leadership this fall. During his visit Stateside he oversaw the relaxation of China’s quota system to allow 34 overseas movies into China, from around 20 previously on a revenue-share basis.
