Demme’s ‘Parker’ docu sets IFC Center run

Theatrical run ahead of September airing on PBS

Jonathan Demme’s post-Katrina doc “I’m Carolyn Parker: The Good, the Mad and Beautiful” had skedded a theatrical run at New York’s IFC Center prior to its September broadcast on PBS.

Film, which premiered as part of the 2011 Toronto Intl. Film Festival, chronicles the biography of a New Orleans native who helped lead to fight to allow residents back to their homes in the wake of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. “I’m Carolyn Parker” is one of a crop of docs from Demme in recent years, including “Neil Young Journeys” and “Man From Plains.”

“I’m Carolyn Parker” begins its theatrical run at IFC Center Sept. 12, with Demme set participate in Q& A sessions on Sept. 12 and 13. Film is set to bow on PBS Sept. 20 as part of the net’s documentary series “POV.”
