‘Dawn’ still breaking overseas

Worldwide B.O. hits $590 million

Summit’s “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2” further sunk its fangs into the overseas box office during the Nov. 23-25 weekend, collecting a boffo $104.2 million for an international cume of $365.5 million and a global tally of $590 million.

“Part 2” of the vampire conclusion, which expanded to 16 new territories (including Germany and India), fell just 48% overall from its $199.5 million overseas debut Nov. 16.

By comparison, the pic dropped 69% over the three-day domestic frame — in line with the previous second-weekend falloffs for past “Twilight” films.

Internationally, the franchise finale fell furthest in the Czech Republic, where it plummeted 73%, for a territorial cume of $2.2 million; in Italy, the film dropped 72%, for a weekend take of $3.8 million.

It’s not unusual for global event pics like “Twilight” to hemorrhage filmgoers in their second outings. Still, the “Twilight” franchise consistently has fallen further compared with other such series.

Meanwhile, Sony-MGM’s 23rd James Bond installment, “Skyfall,” held exceptionally well in its sixth overseas frame, dropping just 9%, with $45.1 million from 83 markets. The Daniel Craig-starrer has collected a franchise-best $571.4 million internationally through Nov. 25, for a worldwide cume nearing $800 million.

As the Bondpic’s top market, the U.K. has contributed a whopping $144.3 million. Germany follows with $66.3 million, then France, at $52.7 million.
