Dealmakers Impact Report 2012: Corporate Strategists

Freedman shepherded Good Universe’s co-production and distribution deal with CBS Films on the feature comedy “Last Vegas,” to be released in 2013, as well as negotiating talent deals for cast, which includes Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro and Morgan Freeman. He negotiated the FilmDistrict distribution deal for a remake of acclaimed South Korean film “Oldboy,” to be released in 2013, as well as talent deals with director Spike Lee and star Josh Brolin. Freedman oversees Good Universe deals on slate development and production, including “The Last Drop,” starring Justin Timberlake, produced by Greg Shapiro and helmed by Peter Sollett; Mindy Kaling’s “The Low Self-Esteem of Lizzie Gillespie,” with Anne Hathaway attached to star; and feature comedy “The Untitled Jamaica Project,” with Seth Rogen. “I love making deals that are collaborative, that align the creative aspirations of filmmakers and the entrepreneurial aspects of this company,” says Freeman. “It works because we all have the same goal.”
