John Ford Ireland Film Symposium 2012
Clint Eastwood received the inaugural John Ford Award, established to honor filmmakers continuing the director’s legacy with individuality and vision in December. As Ford did, Eastwood helms understated slices of life that simultaneously celebrate and question American myths, past and present. Committee member Luke Gibbons said, “Clint Eastwood shares with John Ford the journey west in pursuit of the American dream, but like Ford, he is also aware that dreams are for world that are lost or endangered, as much as kingdoms yet to come.” There will be much of Eastwood in evidence at the Ford symposium: a 20th anniversary screening of Eastwood’s Oscar-winning “Unforgiven,” regular collaborator Joel Cox will hold an editing master class, and son Kyle Eastwood will perform with his band and discuss the role of music in the films of Ford and his own father.
