Fishing docu set to screen at TIFF
The Cinema Guild has snapped up U.S. distribution rights to commercial fishing documentary “Leviathan” from Lucien Castaing-Taylor (“Sweetgrass”) and Verena Paravel (“Foreign Parts”).“Leviathan” will screen next week at the Toronto Intl. Film Festival and will have its U.S. premiere at the New York Film Festival. It will open theatrically early next year. Shot in the North Atlantic, the documentary is aimed at portraying the collaborative clash of man, nature, and machine. It was shot on a dozen cameras. Paravel and Castaing-Taylor work at the sensory ethnography lab at Harvard University. The deal was negotiated by Ryan Krivoshey of The Cinema Guild with Castaing-Taylor. The Cinema Guild recently acquired “Night Across the Street,” the final film from Raul Ruiz, which will have its North American premiere at TIFF.
