LONDON — U.K. film and TV finance company Cascade Media Development has launched an initiative to help new U.K. scripters break into the industry.
The monthly Writers’ Couch will invite scribes with a completed feature-length script and without literary representation to pitch their project to Cascade’s development executives.
The company aims to discover projects for production as well as new writing talent and build relationships with writers, with the intention of working on future projects.
The first meet will take place Dec. 14 when up to 24 applicants will get 10 minutes to pitch their projects.
The deadline for pitch submissions is Nov. 12. Scribes must provide brief information about the project along with the first 10 pages of the script.
The Writers’ Couch will be overseen by Cascade’s acquisitions and development exec Daniel Campos Pavoncelli and development consultant Sam Cheetham, who will manage the project.
Cascade is launching a £150,000 ($240,000) script development fund in the form of a Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme. The new U.K. tax incentive, introduced in April, allows investors to put in $160,000 in a single tax year, receiving up to 50% tax relief. The fund will invest in developing scripts including those Cascade picks up from the Writers’ Couch.
