Carmike Cinemas, the nation’s fourth-largest theater chain, has expanded its footprint by closing a deal to acquire 16 multiplexes from Rave Reviews Cinemas totaling 251 screens in seven states.
The deal brings Carmike’s total count to 2,493 screens; the additional 251 screens are fully digital, with 40% 3D-capable. “This transaction is an important step along our path to achieving Carmike’s current goal of expanding the company’s theatrical circuit to 300 entertainment complexes and 3,000 screens,” said Carmike prexy-CEO David Passman. The majority of the added theaters are spread throughout the South, with a few other locations in the Midwest and Northeast.
