Ceremony honored the late Vaclav Havel

PRAGUE — Debut helmer Zdenek Jirasky’s “Flower Buds” won best picture, director, actor for Vladimir Javorsky and cinematography at the Czech Republic’s Czech Lions film awards in Prague on Saturday.

The org honored the late former president and scribe Vaclav Havel, who died in December, with screenplay and editing honors for his political parody, “Leaving.”

Tribute was poignant as Havel’s loss is still deeply felt in the arts and human rights communities.

Anna Geislerova won actress prize for suspenser “Innocence,” which also won supporting actor for Hynek Cermak. Tatjana Medvecka nabbed supporting actress honors for “House,” the story of an obsessive father who builds his daughter the home she never wanted.

Martin Marecek’s “Under a Dark Sun,” about Czech volunteers in Africa, scored docu prize while haunting animated pic “Alois Nebel” took best sound, music and art direction.
