Sales outfit Dreamcatchers has secured a handful of key distribution deals for “Mariah Mundi and the Midas Box,” a family fantasy adventure directed by Jonathan Newman.
The $25 million pic, which recently finished shooting in the U.K., has been acquired by Square One in Germany, Beverly Hills Entertainment and California Filmes in Latin America, Paradise in Russia, Falcon Films in the Middle East and HGC in China.
The live-action film is adapted from G.P. Taylor’s teen novel set in the 19th century, and is intended as the first episode in a franchise. It stars Aneurin Barnard as a boy searching for his missing parents and kidnapped brother in a mysterious luxury hotel, filled with villains, scary creatures and a box that turns everyday objects into gold.
The supporting cast includes Michael Sheen, Sam Neill, Lena Headey, Keeley Hawes and Ioan Gruffudd. Pic is co-produced by Entertainment Motion Pictures and Arcadia Motion Pictures. Sales company Dreamcatchers is a partnership between Arcadia, Spanish distrib Wanda and Marin.
