Bevan & Fellner: Nothing beats working well together

Hollywood Film Awards 2012: Producers Award

With nearly a 100 films and 20 years of a thriving partnership, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner (Hollywood Producers Award) have continued to make Working Title Films a global brand with a pair of year-end releases that showcase their willingness to take risks: Focus Films’ “Anna Karenina” with Keira Knightley and directed by Joe Wright from a Tom Stoppard script; and Universal Pictures’ “Les Miserables” starring Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway and Russell Crowe with Tom Hooper at the helm.

“We trust each other and we know we can cover a lot more ground because there are two of us,” says Bevan, noting that great advantage in athe producing partnership. ” ‘Anna’ and ‘Les Mis’ came at the same time with great directors and visions and they do (both) push the boundaries of cinema.”

He adds, “I’ve always wanted to work in partnership because it can be a pretty shitty job. There are a lot of ‘Nos’ and plenty of ups and downs. It’s much better having a partner to get through it.”

Working Title works, Bevan thinks, because “we each do the same thing in different styles: You develop movies, find material you like, do the heavy lifting of putting the right creative time around it and get the studio to make it. The important thing is to enjoy yourselves. We try and laugh a bit still.”
