Tom Felton, Penelope Wilton join pic's cast

LONDON — “Harry Potter” star Tom Felton and Penelope Wilton (“Downton Abbey”) have joined the cast of Amma Asante’s period drama “Belle.”

The film tells the true story of Dido Elizabeth Belle, the mixed-race illegitimate daughter of Admiral Sir John Lindsay, who was raised as an aristocratic lady in 18th Century England by Lindsay’s uncle William Murray, the Earl of Mansfield.

Gugu Mbatha Raw stars in the title role alongside Sam Reid, Tom Wilkinson, Miranda Richardson, Matthew Goode, Emily Watson, Sarah Gadon and James Norton.

Principal photography starts Sept. 24 at Pinewood Studios as well as in the Isle of Man, London and Oxford. The film is produced by Damian Jones (“The Iron Lady”).

“Belle” is Asante’s first feature since her debut “A Way Of Life,” which won BAFTA’s Carl Foreman Award for most promising newcomer.

Bankside Films is handling worldwide sales.
