BBC Films pursues Ronan’s ‘Youth,’ Curtis’ ‘Lady’

New pics from Heyman, Thompson on slate

Off the back of positive reception for Rufus Norris’ “Broken,” which opened Cannes Critics Week, BBC Films has unveiled its new productions, including Saoirse Ronan starrer “Testament of Youth.”

Pic, from “Harry Potter” producer David Heyman via his Heyday Films banner, is Juliette Towhidi’s adaptation of Vera Brittain’s WWI memoir. Ronan will play Vera.

BBC Films also will back Simon Curtis’ “The Golden Lady.”

Pic, penned by playwright Alexi Kaye Campbell, follows the story of Maria Altman who fought to reclaim several world-famous Gustav Klimt paintings, including one he painted of Altman’s aunt that had been stolen by the Nazis.

Curtis will direct; Origin Pictures’ David Thompson will produce.

BBC Films has formalized its commitment to previously announced titles including Ruby Films and Disney’s “Saving Mr. Banks,” starring Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson, and helmer Declan Lowney’s “The Alan Partridge Movie” (working title), produced by Baby Cow, Kevin Loader, Henry Normal and Armando Iannucci.

BBC is also backing Nick Murphy’s psychological thriller “Blood,” Lisa Barros D’Sa and Glenn Leyburn’s “Good Vibrations,” Ralph Fiennes’ “Invisible Woman,” Julien Temple’s “You Really Got Me,” Jude Law starrer “Dom Hemingway,” Mat Whitecross’ “Spike Island” and an untitled Sally Potter pic.

And it is backing Dustin Hoffman’s directorial debut “Quartet,” Rooney Mara starrer “Brooklyn” and “A Long Way Down,” all produced by Wildgaze’s Finola Dwyer and Amanda Posey.
