Miranda Richardson, Tom Wilkinson and rising Brit thesp Gugu Mbatha-Raw are among the talent that will round out the cast for producer Damian Jones’ new project, “Belle.”
Pic, being shopped to buyers during Cannes by Bankside Films, is helmed by BAFTA-winning director Amma Asante (“A Way of Life”) and based on the true story of a mixed-race girl raised as an aristocratic lady in Blighty at the end of the 18th century.
Mbatha-Raw, currently working in the U.S. on Fox TV series “Touch,” will play Belle while Sarah Gadon, whose credits include “Cosmopolis” (screening in competish in Cannes) and “Antiviral,” will play her cousin.
Sam Claflin (“Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” “Snow White and the Huntsman”) and Matthew Goode will also star.
Jones’ recent credits include “The Iron Lady” and upcoming “Fast Girls.” “Belle” was developed and supported by the British Film Institute.
