Artificial Eye buys ‘Berberian Sound Studio’

Peter Strickland previously directed 'Katalin Varga'

LONDON — Artificial Eye has picked up U.K. rights to Peter Strickland’s “Berberian Sound Studio,” via its acquisition funding vehicle Curzon Film Rights 2.

The pic, which stars Toby Jones as a sound engineer whose world spins out of control when he works on an Italian slasher movie, will get its world premiere at the Edinburgh Film Festival in June.

Artificial Eye previously released Strickland’s acclaimed debut “Katalin Varga.”

“Berberian Sound Studio” was produced by Illuminations Films and Warp X, with backing from Film4, the U.K. Film Council and Screen Yorkshire.

Foreign sales are handled by the Match Factory.
