Arlen Escarpeta joins ‘Category Six’ cast

Story follows high schoolers trying to survive massive tornado

New Line has cast Arlen Escarpeta in found-footage tornado project “Category Six” opposite Alycia Debnam-Carey.

Steven Quale — a longtime associate of James Cameron — signed on earlier this year to direct “Category Six” in his second gig for New Line following “Final Destination 5,” in which Escarpeta starred.

Studio began developing the project last fall when it bought John Swetnam’s script and set it up with Todd Garner at his Broken Road banner. Story is presented through video cameras and cell phones and centers on high schoolers who try to survive a Category 6 tornado — the worst in U.S. history.

Quale was second-unit director and visual effects supervisor on “Avatar” and second-unit director on “Titanic.”

Escarpeta is repped by The Kohner Agency.
