Will develop young-adult thriller as series of movies

Dan Angel (“Door to Door”) of the Hatchery has launched development of Patrick Carman’s “Dark Eden,” a multimedia young-adult thriller.

Angel is planning to develop it as a series of movies with multimedia components.

“Dark Eden” centers on seven 15-year-olds sent to a remote institution to be cured of their crippling phobias. Sequestered in mysterious fear chambers, they are forced to confront their worst nightmares.

The novel, puiblished by HarperCollins imprint Katherine Tegen Books, includes digital components — such as still images, audio recordings, videos, scans, and text entries — delivered through a mobile application that transmits new episodes sequentially as the story unfolds.

Carman authored the “Land of Elyon” and “Atherton” series, the teen novel “Thirteen Days to Midnight” and multimedia titles “The Black Circle,” “Skeleton Creek” and “Tracker.”

Angel is exec producing “R. L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour” and “Dan Vs.” for the Hub Network.
