Brian Dannelly boards high school vampire comedy

Alcon Entertainment is heading to high school, tapping Brian Dannelly to direct “Suckers” from Adrian Vina’s script.

Alcon toppers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson are producing. Story centers on a high schooler who tries to become popular when he moves to a new school by telling everyone he’s a vampire. But he runs into trouble when he’s accused of a murder.

Dannelly directed Chris Colfer of “Glee” in “Struck by Lightning,” which is making its world premiere next month at Tribeca in the Spotlight section. “Lightning” centers on a hyper-ambitious and outspoken high school senior who narrates his own funeral and the last few weeks of his life through a series of sarcastic flashbacks.

Dannelly also helmed teen dramedy “Saved!,” which starred Jenna Malone, Mandy Moore and Macaulay Culkin. His smallscreen directing credits include the pilot of Showtime’s “Weeds,” as well as ABC’s “Pushing Daisies” and Showtime’s “United States of Tara.”

Dannelly is repped by Verve.
