ROME — Jessica Alba, Dianna Agron (“Glee”) and Jean Reno are among guests expected at the 42nd Giffoni Film Festival, the tyke-skewed event that opens July 14 with the Italo launch of Fox’s “Ice Age: Continental Drift.”
Rather than coming to promote a pic, these stars have been recruited to engage with young film buffs at the 11-day event in Giffoni Valle Piana, near the Amalfi coast, where there will be more than 3,000 jurors aged 3 to 23.
Others guests include Patti Smith, who will perform, plus Italian helmer Daniele Vicari (“Diaz”) and thesp Fabrizio Gifuni (“Romanzo di una strage”), who will hold master classes.
Other U.S. studio and indie titles being showcased include “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted,” and coming-of-agers “LOL” and “Struck By Lightening.”
There will also be a Tim Burton marathon, and an homage to Francois Truffaut, 30 years after the Gallic auteur made the trek to the fest.
The annual theme driving discussions at Giffoni this year is the word “Happiness,” which topper Claudio Gubitosi said was especially appropriate in this time of economic crisis.
