Alan Rickman to star in ‘CBGB’

Randall Miller helms story of famous N.Y. club

Alan Rickman has landed the lead role as Gotham’s famed nightclub owner Hilly Kristal in Randall Miller’s “CBGB.”

The film centers on the real-life story of Kristal’s CBGB club and its impact on the underground music scene, highlighting artists like the Talking Heads, the Ramones and Blondie.

Miller is taking over helming reins from Jody Savin, who co-wrote the script with Miller. Both are producing via their banner Unclaimed Freight Prods., along with music industry vet Brad Rosenberger.

“We wrote this role for Alan Rickman who, like Hilly Kristal, is a true champion of the arts,” Savin said. Rickman previously teamed with Miller and Savin on the pair’s 2008 indie hit “Bottle Shock.”

“CBGC” is scheduled to begin lensing in June, ahead of Miller’s Dennis Wilson biopic “The Drummer,” which has been pushed back to a fall start date.
