Alamo Drafthouse Cinema plans to open its first New York City location, a five-screen Manhattan-area theater, next year.
Venue is on the Upper West Side, occupying the former Metro Theater at 2626 Broadway.
“My often-stated top priority for the Alamo Drafthouse has been to open a venue in New York,” said CEO Tim League in a statement. “When we discovered the availability of the historic Metro theater, we immediately knew we had found the perfect location for our new Manhattan home.”
Alamo Drafthouse started as a single-screen theater in Austin combining food and drink service with a fan-based moviegoing experience. It now has 13 locations in Texas and Virginia and has expanded into film distribution under the banner Drafthouse Films.
League also operates the Fantastic Fest film festival.
