Putting its domestic spin on this year’s screen kudos, the American Film Institute has unveiled its roster of 10 movies of the year, along with a companion list for television.
“Argo,” “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” “The Dark Knight Rises,” “Django Unchained,” “Les Miserables,” “Life of Pi,” “Lincoln,” “Moonrise Kingdom,” “Silver Linings Playbook” and “Zero Dark Thirty” will be honored at the AFI Awards luncheon Jan. 11.
On the TV side, the 10 honorees are “American Horror Story,” “Breaking Bad,” “Game Change,” “Game of Thrones,” “Girls,” “Homeland,” “Louie,” “Mad Men,” “Modern Family” and “The Walking Dead.”
“Mad Men” has set a record by making its fifth appearance on the AFI Awards list.
Among the eligible movies omitted in the AFI film list were “Flight,” “The Master,” “Promised Land,” “The Sessions” and “Skyfall.”
