AB teams with CAPA, Kisskissbankbank

Partners to build eclectic slate of documentaries

CANNES — Gallic TV company AB Groupe is teaming with news agency Capa and French crowdfunding platform Kisskissbankbank to build an eclectic slate of documentaries.

Pact was announced at Mipcom.

Launched in 2009, Kisskissbankbank allows contributors to get involved in funding, production and promotion in fields ranging from film to live events, publishing, fashion and music.

Some 48% of the docs presented on Kisskissbankbank have been fully funded, according to the platform.

Richard Maroko, AB Groupe’s head of programming and distribution, said his company will partner with Capa to choose the most promising docs and complete the financing.

Capa, one of France’s most prolific producers of upscale docmentaries, will be in charge of editorial development.

Supervised by Jean-Marie Michel, Capa docs are almost all commissioned by paybox Canal Plus, such as the recent “Global Waste.”

AB Groupe and Capa will produce five or so Kisskissbankbank docs a year.

“We think this partnership will give us the opportunity to discover original, daring projects and get closer to the Internet community,” said Maroko.

France’s largest pay TV company, AB Groupe is also a rights broker. Maroko recently completed the acquisition of Canadian drama series “The L.A. Complex.”
