AAM, Barco bow d-cinema leasing fund

Project aims to convert 2,000 screens

LONDON — European digital cinema company Arts Alliance Media and Belgian digital projector manufacturer Barco have launched a €100 million ($133 million) digital cinema leasing program.

The program, which is supported by ING Lease Belgium, will be offered to European exhibs to help them convert to digital cinema. It will use London-based AAM’s existing VPF agreements with the Hollywood majors and nearly 100 European distributors.

Funding will be available for 18 months, targeting 2,000 screens for conversion.

Barco, which has installed more than 25,000 digital projectors worldwide, will supply the projectors and AAM, which supports more than 2,300 digital cinema systems, will offer maintenance and support.

AAM CEO Howard Kiedaisch said, “With Europe already over 50% converted, the remaining cinemas need to move quickly or risk being left behind.”
