A24 gets a glimpse of ‘Charles Swan’

New company acquires U.S. rights to Roman Coppola's drama

Aiming to make a splash prior to the Toronto Film Festival, newly minted A24 has acquired all U.S. rights to Roman Coppola’s “A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III” and plans a February theatrical release.

The film was written, directed and produced by Coppola and stars Charlie Sheen in the title role in addition to Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray and Patricia Arquette. Aubrey Plaza, Katheryn Winnick and Mary Elizabeth Winstead co-star.

Coppola produced the film with Youree Henley, and the film was exec produced by Michael Zakin and Robert Maron.

FilmBuff will handle domestic digital distribution.

The film, set in Los Angeles, centers on a graphic designer whose fame, money and charm have provided him with a seemingly perfect life. When his true love suddenly breaks off their relationship, his life falls apart and he swirls into a downward spiral of doubt, confusion and reflection.

Bart Walker of Cinetic Media negotiated the deal for the film with A24.

A24 was founded by film execs Daniel Katz, John Hodges and David Fenkel and is focused on distribution, financing and production. The company plans to distribute eight to 10 titles per year, several of which will have wide theatrical releases.

Execs plan to be scouting buying opportunities when Toronto launches next week.
