BERLIN

The 63rd Berlin Film Festival unveiled the first titles for its 2013 edition on Thursday.

Gus Van Sant’s “Promised Land,” starring Matt Damon, and Kirk De Micco’s 3D animated prehistoric pic “The Croods” are among six films announced for the main Competition section.

Van Sant’s environmental drama about a rural town that stands up to a gas company’s fracking plans, which also stars Frances McDormand, John Krasinski and Hal Holbrook, will have its international premiere at the Berlinale.

“The Croods,” voiced by Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone and Ryan Reynolds, will unspool out-of-competition in the section.

Austrian Ulrich Seidl’s “Paradise: Hope,” the third part of a trilogy focusing on three women from one family, will get its world premiere in competition. “Hope” follows a chubby young woman spending her holidays at a weight-loss camp.

Other world premieres include Sebastian Lelio’s Chilean-Spanish co-production “Gloria,” Hong Sangsoo’s Korean drama “Nobody’s Daughter Haewon,” and, from Romania, Calin Peter Netzer’s “Child’s Pose.”

In addition, Christian Rost and Claus Strigel’s documentary “Redemption Impossible” will unspool in the Berlinale Special sidebar.

The fest runs Feb. 7 to 17.
