Trio roars for Radu’s ‘Lion’

L.A. shoot begins later in the year

Alain Attal’s Les Productions du Tresor and Pierre-Ange Le Pogam’s Stone Angels are teaming on “Little Lion,” the ambitious English-language debut of Cannes favorite Radu Mihaileanu (“The Source,” “The Concert”).

Oi Oi Oi Productions, Mihaileanu’s Paris-based label, will also produce the pic, budgeted at around $25 million.

Written by Mihaileanu and Alain-Michel Blanc, “Little Lion” follows an African lawyer who travels to Los Angeles and takes on its corporate legal system, Attal said. The L.A. shoot begins later in the year. Casting for two high-profile U.S. actors is under way.

Tresor is producing Guillaume Canet’s “Blood Ties,” now shooting in New York with Clive Owen, Billy Crudup, Mila Kunis, James Caan, Zoe Saldana and Marion Cotillard. Worldview Entertainment finances the crime thriller. Wild Bunch is selling “Blood” at Cannes and has nailed a deal for the U.K. rights with Lionsgate.

Tresor looks set to expand even more, with plans for its first fanboy genre movie, more co-productions and multiple feature debuts.

“I don’t want to miss out on the chance to make more movies,” Attal said.

Tresor is prepping “How I Became a Superhero.” Budgeted at more than $32.5 million, “Superhero” was written by the producer’s son, Douglas, and helmer-scribe Cedric Anger (“The Counsel”), adapting Gerald Bronner’s bestseller. Douglas Attal directs. Pic is slated for a 2013 shoot.

The vfx-laden action-drama “Superhero” is “French auteur cinema meets Marvel,” said Attal, featuring a Paris policeman, Titan, who can fly and and perform other superhuman feats.

Attal is minority co-producing EuropaCorp-produced “Mobius” and teaming with Hugo Selignac’s Chi-Fou-Mi Prods. on “Jour J,” from actor-helmer Gilles Lellouche, plus producing first-timer Jeanne Herry’s comedy-thriller “She Loves Him, She Adores Him.”

Also on the Tresor slate is Gilles Julien-Laferriere’s soph pic, “SMS” and Nicole Garcia’s $17 million femme drama “Mal de pierre.”
