Segal teams with AngeleFine on ‘Beauty’

AnnaSophia Robb to star in $13 mil project

U.S. producer Oren Segal is teaming with Gaul’s AngeleFine Prods. to co-produce Sanaa Hamri’s dark futuristic comedy “Just Like Beauty,” based on the novel of the same name by New Yorker Lisa Lerner.

Budgeted at €10 million ($13 million), Segal will produce project via his Management Pictures Entertainment. Nick Pustay (“Ramona and Beezus”) penned the script.

AnnaSophia Robb (“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”) is attached to star in the pic, which is being packaged by CAA.

“Beauty” focuses on a reluctant teen contestant in a futuristic pageant that demands would-be queens perform incredible acts of strength, violence and sacrifice.

Pic was a standout at Tuesday’s Capital Regions for Cinema Co-Production Meeting in Cannes.

AngeleFine is run by Pierre Buffin, head of BUF vfx company, and producer India Osborne.

Shingle exec produced Stephen Sommers’ “Odd Thomas” and Eric Ricklis’ “Zaytoun.”

BUF has tapped Gallic international tax rebates for pics such as “Thor” and “The Darkest Hour.”

Also making waves at the forum was animated feature “Longway North” and psychological thriller “The Last Step,” from Corinne Benichou’s Eight 35. Budgeted at $7.4 million, “Step” is co-produced by Canada’s Transfilms.

Organized by CRC partners, the Ile-de-France, Lazio and Madrid Film Commissions, and the Berlin-Brandenburg Film Board, this year’s co-production meeting chose as guest of honor the Oresund Film Commission, which reps the Copenhagen region and southern Sweden.

Sweden’s Hepp Films and Denmark’s Kamoli Films pitched rock ‘n’ roll love story “Knockout,” starring Noomi Rapace as Swedish pop star Anita Lindblom.

Helmed by Catherine Hardwicke, the project has already raised $4.9 million of its $5.9 million budget.
