Le Pacte nabs ‘Broken’

British drama toplines Cillian Murphy, Tim Roth

PARIS — Jean Labadie’s upscale arthouse shingle Le Pacte has nabbed French distribution rights to Rufus Norris’ Critics’ Week opener “Broken,” a British drama toplining Cillian Murphy and Tim Roth.

An uplifiting tale centering on a young girl who witnesses a violent attack in London, “Broken” is scribe Mark O’Rowe’s contemporary adaptation of Harper Lee’s 1960 bestseller “To Kill a Mockingbird.”

“Broken” is repped by Vincent Maraval’s Wild Bunch, and is produced by BBC Films, Bill Kenwright Films and Cuba Pictures.

In other pre-Cannes news, Le Pacte has taken French distribution and international sales rights to Hubert Sauper’s Sudan-set docu feature “We Come As Friends,” his follow up to Oscar-nommed “Darwin’s Nightmare.” Doc is in production.

The Paris-based company’s distribution slate includes four pics set to world preem in Competition at Cannes: Carlos Reygadas’ “Post Tenebras Lux,” which Le Pacte is also selling worldwide, Matteo Garrone’s (“Gomorra”) “Reality,” sold by Fandango Portobello; and two Wild Bunch-repped pics, Cristian Mungiu’s “Beyond the Hills” and Ken Loach’s “The Angels’ Share” (set for a June 27 roll out).

Le Pacte will also distribute two pics by U.K. genre helmer Ben Wheatley: “Kill List” (in July), and his dark comedy “Sightseers,” which will world preem at Directors’ Fortnight later this year or early 2013.
