Karlovy Vary ready to roll

It kicks off with biopic 'Good Vibrations'

PRAGUE — The 47th Karlovy Vary Film Festival kicks off Friday with Lisa Barros D’Sa and Glenn Leyburn’s biopic “Good Vibrations” about record-store owner Terri Hooley, who fostered punk rock in Belfast.

Fest will also welcome guests including helmer Dario Argento, thesp Kara Hayward and Danish actor Thomas Bo Larsen, presenting Thomas Vinterberg’s “The Hunt.”

Hayward will tubthump Wes Anderson’s offbeat romantic comedy “Moonrise Kingdom” while Argento will present “Dario Argento’s Dracula” in 3D, part of fest’s popular midnight movies section, which draw crowds of youthful backpackers from around the Czech Republic every summer.

U.K. helmer Mark Cousins, Spain’s Luis Minarro and a host of arthouse film figures are also expected.

Fest will unspool more than 200 pics over nine days, focusing on world and European preems. Apart from its 12-pic feature competition, its strongest sections are the documentary and East of the West strands.

Fest will wrap July 7 with Woody Allen’s “To Rome With Love.”
