Kaleidoscope picks up ‘Penguin King 3D’

Company takes U.K., int'l rights to docu

LONDON — Kaleidoscope Film Distribution has acquired docu feature “The Penguin King 3D,” narrated by David Attenborough, which it will preem in Cannes next month.

The $20 million pic, which Kaleidoscope is releasing in Blighty theatrically before a home entertainment release later in the year, follows a young penguin as he battles his way from an adolescent to a fully-fledged king in un-spoilt Antarctic terrain.

Kaleidoscope will also be shopping the pic, which was shot in full stereoscopic 3D, on the Croisette this year.

Deal was negotiated by Atlantic Productions’ John Morris and Kaleidoscope’s Spencer Pollard and Caroline Stern.

Docu first aired on Sky 3D last year.
