Thesp to star in dark comedy from Ball, Bregman

Elizabeth Banks will topline dark comedy “What’s the Matter With Margie?” with filming set to start early next year in Los Angeles.

Daniel Minahan will direct from Alan Ball’s original screenplay. Anthony Bregman (“Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”) and Ball will produce.

Myriad Pictures has sales rights outside the U.S. and Canada and is pre-selling in Cannes. UTA Independent Film Group packaged the film, is arranging financing and will sell the U.S. and Canadian rights.

Banks will portray a downtrodden office-worker who finally snaps and resorts to murder as a solution to her problems.

She is in “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” and “The Hunger Games.”

Minahan’s first film as director was “Series 7: The Contenders” and he has directed multiple episodes “Game of Thrones” and “True Blood.”

Ball is the creator and executive producer of “True Blood.”

The deal was negotiated by David Ducar for Myriad and UTA Independent Film Group on behalf of the filmmaker and producers.
