U.K. specialty distributor-sales outfit nabs investment
U.K. specialty distributor-sales outfit Dogwoof has secured investment for a new acquisitions fund.
The shingle expects to acquire 10 documentaries in the next two years for its fledgling Dogwoof Global Sales arm.
The company, which opened Dogwoof USA in New York in April, aims to acquire larger-scale docs with more theatrical potential.
The sales arm previously sold pics including “Girl Model,” which was shopped at Toronto last year, and “Marina Abramovic: The Artist Is Present.”
Fund, which will be launched in Cannes, will acquire films in development and completed.
Additionally, Dogwoof will handle U.K. theatrical distribution — distrib has released more than 100 docus on all windows.
Dogwoof has concluded a slew of sales on helmer Matthew Akers’ “Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present.”
Pic, which is screening at Cannes today, sold to Germany (NFP), France (Pretty Pictures), Switzerland (Look Now) and Austria (Poly Film).
Story follows performance artist Abramovic as she prepares for a landmark retrospective at New York’s Museum of Modern Art.
