Buena Vista nabs L. American rights to ‘Mala’

New psycho-thriller comes from Argentine helmer Israel Adrian Caetano

EXCLUSIVE: Buena Vista Intl. has taken all Latin American rights to “Mala,” the new psycho-thriller from Argentine helmer Israel Adrian Caetano (“Buenos Aires 1977”).

Guido Rud’s FilmSharks is pre-selling the title at Toronto. Rud and Martin Iraola and Pablo Sahores at Disney Latin America negotiated the deal.

In post-production, “Mala” will bow in Argentina on over 50 prints in February 2013. Dubbed a “tragic-actioner” by Caaetano, “Mala” turns on a hitwoman with a special line of business: Murdering men who abuse women.

Magma Cine, Nathalia Videla Pena and Juan Pablo Gugliotta’s Buenos Aires production shingle produce with Alex de la Iglesia’s frequent French co-producer La Ferme Productions.

One of Argentina’s most versatile directors, Caetano helmed the Wild Bunch-sold Cannes Competition contender “Buenos Aires 1977,” which the Weinstein Co. acquired for U.S. distribution.
