AFM, AFI team on pic trio

Market, fest to screen three films

The American Film Market and the AFI Film Festival are teaming up for the first time, whereby three fest pics seeking international sales representation will play during a market-hosted screening program Nov. 6.

The three films hand selected by AFI include Mexican writer-director Antonio Mendez Esparza’s “Here and There,” Kenyan pic “Nairobi Half Life,” from director David Tosh Gitonga and helmer Sean Baker’s indie drama “Starlet.”

A total of 27 AFI Fest films will screen at this year’s AFM, which kicks off today through Nov. 7 in Santa Monica.

“This was a natural progression in our long partnership with AFI FEST and provides these filmmakers an invaluable opportunity to screen for the world’s top sales agents,” said AFM managing director Jonathan Wolf, who jointly announced the partnership with AFI Fest director Jacqueline Lyanga.

AFI Fest runs Nov. 1-8.
