‘Spider-Man’ tops Friday B.O. with $20.7 mil

Sony pic on track for $60-$65 mil for three-day weekend

Coming off a big July 4 surge, Sony’s tentpole “The Amazing Spider-Man” snagged the top spot for Friday’s domestic B.O. with a solid $20.7 million, with three-day weekend estimates tracking in the $60-65 million range.

With a record-breaking Tuesday opening (at $35.9 million) and a boffo showing on the midweek holiday, Spidey’s six-day cume looks to fall in the $135-140 million range. The pic compares favorably to another blockbuster superhero reboot: Helmer Christopher Nolan’s “Batman Begins,” which drew $79.5 million in its first six days.

Last week’s top films also made a strong showing Friday, with Universal’s “Ted” drawing $10.5 million from audiences and Disney/Pixar’s “Brave” garnering $6.2 million. Warner Bros.’ male stripper saga “Magic Mike” trailed right behind that, with $6.1 million.

U’s opening film “Savages,” meanwhile, looks to catch up with only $5.6 million to its name so far. The Oliver Stone-directed pic is still on track to draw a weekend cume of $16.8 million, respectable considering the project’s violence and subject matter (namely, high-grade pot and Mexican cartels).

Another opening pic, “Katy Perry: Part of Me,” drew only $2.7 million from a 2,730-theater opening. Made for $12 million, the 3D docu follows pop songstress Katy Perry on tour and gives an inner look at her personal life, including a divorce with bad-boy comedian Russell Brand.
