Holdovers top sluggish post-holiday frame

Pitt's 'Killing' lags behind with $2.5 mil

A stagnant post-Thanksgiving B.O. is keeping Summit’s “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2” on top with $5.6 million Friday.

The “Twilight” conclusion is looking at a three-day haul of around $17 million in its third weekend in release. Its domestic cume to date is $242.8 million, the fourth highest in the series. To surpass “Breaking Dawn — Part 1,” it’ll need a lifetime gross of $281.3 million, and to eclipse “Eclipse,” the series high, it’ll need to gross north of $300 million.

Pre-weekend pundits had Sony’s “Skyfall” leapfrogging “Part 2” for first this frame, which could still happen. As of Friday, however, the latest “James Bond” installment earned $4.9 million for second place. If it does surpass the “Twilight” conclusion, it’ll have its second weekend on top in four weeks of release.

“Skyfall” has cumed $233.9 million thus far.

In their soph seshes, Fox’s “Life of Pi” and Paramount/DreamWorks’ “Rise of the Guardians” earned $3.3 million and $3 million respectively on Friday. Each should land just north of $10 million through Sunday. Meanwhile, Disney’s “Lincoln” took third Friday with $4 million.

The Weinstein Co.’s “Killing Them Softly,” one of only two openers this weekend, earned $2.5 million Friday at 2,424 theaters, which should put it in the high single digits this frame. The other opener, LD Entertainment’s scarer “The Collection” should top out around $5 million through Sunday.
