The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences had a board meeting on Tuesday, which led to the following bits o’ news:
— Oscars institute rules changes: Not big ones, and certainly nothing with regard to the number of best picture nominees, so some might be disappointed. But for people in the songwriting, makeup, visual effects and foreign-language film biz, there’s nuggets there.
— Disney extends global Oscar agreement: Disney Media Distribution now has rights to put forth the Oscars outside the U.S. through 2020. Strangely, though, no results found for googling “Watching the Oscars in Vanuatu.”
— Film acad invites 176 to join: The future is now for potential AMPAS member Stephen King and nearly nine score others. In addition, the Academy’s Art Directors branch has been renamed the Designers branch.
