New AMPAS officers feature familiar Board names

Koch

Even as Hawk Koch was elected to the presidency of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences tonight by its Board of Governors, several rumored contenders for the post didn’t come away empty-handed.

Screen shot 2012-07-31 at 8.53.23 PMCheryl Boone Isaacs (right) will succeed Koch as the org’s first vice president, while Phil Robinson and Kathleen Kennedy will serve as unnumerated vice presidents. Among the other prospective finalists, Rob Friedman was elected treasurer, while past Acad prexy Robert Rehme was voted secretary.

Koch and Kennedy are from the Board’s producers branch, while Boone Isaacs and Friedman are from the public relations branch. Rehme is in the executives branch, Robinson the writers branch.

Still to be determined in the coming days is how Koch will address his pre-existing duties as co-prexy of the Producers Guild with Mark Gordon (pictured above).

Because Koch will have to leave the AMPAS presidency after one year because of Board of Governor term limits, we’ll all be at this again in another 12 months. And forgive me, but I can’t help but point out that Boone Issacs, who is also producing this year’s Governors Awards with Don Mischer and Co., would seem to stand in prime position to ascend to the top in 2013.

But that one paragraph of indulging speculation gets us far ahead of ourselves.  Congratulations to Koch for following in his father’s footsteps as film academy prexy. We’ll all be eager to see his tenure unfold.
