LONDON — Zee Entertainment Enterprises, India’s largest media and entertainment company, has appointed Bhaskar Das as chief exec of its digital and news businesses.
Das will be in charge of Zee’s news channels and web portal India.com. He will report to Zee’s group chairman Subhash Chandra.
Das quit the Times of India group earlier this month after 32 years with the group.
Launched in 1992, Zee is a pioneer of the TV industry in India. It now has 500 million viewers spread across 167 countries, and a library of more than 100,000 hours of TV content, and 3,000 films.
The company had revenues of $596 million in 2011, and is hoping to make inroads into the U.S. with wellness channel Veria Living, which launched in 2010 with $250 million invested to date.
India.com is a joint venture with the Penske Media Corp., which also owns Variety.
