Reality skein to explore 2012 elections via six American families

As online giants continue to push into original programming, Yahoo News will debut short-form weekly reality series “Remake America,” which follows the lives of six American families, on Thursday.

Skein will offer a lens into the political issues at the forefront of the 2012 elections, including the impact of unemployment, health care, veteran affairs and the housing market.

Yahoo auds can join the discussion by posting advice, comments and personal stories on the show’s conversation page, and they can follow the families through various social media platforms.

“?’Remake America’ puts real faces and names to issues Americans can relate to. Yahoo believes it is vital that the voices and lives of Americans be heard in order to establish a lasting community and to influence change,” said Robert Barrett, VP of Yahoo news and finance.

At a conference on Wednesday, Barrett described the Netco as focused on “building islands of (video) content” within its core franchises.

Last year, Yahoo inked a deal with ABC News to strengthen its position leading up to elections. It recently announced the rollout of a comedy block.
