Sony says PlayStation3 to have 10-year lifespan
Don’t expect a new PlayStation anytime soon. Sony Corp.’s deputy president Kazuo Hirai said at CES that the PlayStation 3 videogame console will have a 10-year lifespan. The PS3 bowed in 2006. Sony is holding off because the PS3’s replacement will rely more heavily on delivering games via a network that can download graphics-heavy games, and existing networks don’t allow those large sizes yet. “Relying solely on networks to deliver content is unfortunately just not possible,” he said.
