Jenji Kohan skein part of Netcaster's original series push
Laura Prepon has been signed to star in the Netflix original series “Orange is the New Black.”
“Orange is the New Black,” based on a memoir by Piper Kerman, is shepherded by exec producer Jenji Kohan (“Weeds”). Prepon will play a supporting character in the story of a woman, played by Taylor Schilling, who finds herself in prison a decade after being involved in a drug-running ring.
Prepon was a series regular on “That ’70’s Show” and starred last season in the NBC comedy “Are You There, Chelsea?” She will also be seen in upcoming feature pic “Lay the Favorite.”
Netflix has ordered 13 hourlong segs of “Orange.” It’s skedded to premiere next year as part of the Netcaster’s big push into original programming with series including David Fincher’s “House of Cards,” “Hemlock Grove” and the revival of “Arrested Development.”
