Company seeks to ramp up local content

TOKYO — Streaming service Hulu Japan has a inked a content deal with local distribs Toei, Shochiku, Asmik Ace, Kadokawa, Nikkatsu and AMG Entertainment.

The pact, announced Wednesday, will allow it to expand its line up of homegrown pics from recent releases to classics.

Hulu Japan has similar deals with Sony Pictures and other Hollywood majors, as well as leading indie foreign pic distrib Toho-Towa.

Hulu Japan, which bowed Sept. 1, charges Japanese users a monthly fee of ¥1,480 ($19.44).
